Let Me Entertain You (The Bolivar Commercial)

The Bolivar Commercial

When I walked into the house bawling the other night following David Dallas's knockout performance at the Delta State Performing Arts Center, hubby Gerald was dumbfounded.

"What happened to you?" he said.

In between sobs I finally was able to tell him that David's stunning performance as Senator John Stennis ("A Gentleman From Mississippi") had absolutely shredded my emotions. I'd laughed, I'd cried, I'd marveled as I gained knowledge and insight, and as the performance ended I'd been left gasping, aching with sentiment. Those are gushy words, I know, but it's the truth. I do believe I forgot to breathe--afraid to miss a single word or gesture or subtle inference. And I wasn't the only one who reacted that way. David's writing and acting are phenomenal. No exaggeration.

What happened to me during that performance? Poet Maya Angelou says that art should "slide through the brain and go straight to the heart." That's exactly what happened to me.

PAC's Sharon Papian, Ted Solomon, the staff and volunteers at the theater, and other Delta State departments (Theater, Art, Literature ... ) present the most wonderful cultural opportunities imaginable. How proud I was to relax and enjoy the wit and fabulous talent of Cleveland native.
